Speedy Fuels is Certified carbon-neutral
Speedy Fuels is excited to announce that we are now certified carbon-neutral! As a fuel distributor, we are committed to finding ways to counteract our environmental impact. Becoming carbon neutral is a steppingstone to accomplishing net zero direct emissions by 2030 or sooner.
Why have we become carbon neutral?
As a business, we pride ourselves on our core values: being transparent, proactive and innovative. Rather than waiting for new environmental laws to come into place, we are passionate about leading change. Our continuous drive for sustainable solutions sowed the seeds of us taking a risk in 2019 when we imported HVO fuel into the UK market. HVO provides our customers with an immediate and direct alternative that cuts net CO2 emissions whilst necessitating minimal capital expenditure to implement.
Businesses have an obligation to play their part in helping the UK achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Not only this, but becoming carbon neutral drastically improves our reputation as we are committed to improving our planet for our colleagues, our customers and our local communities.
What does being carbon neutral mean?
Companies and products can be carbon neutral when they calculate their carbon emissions and compensate for what they’ve produced using carbon offsetting projects.
Speedy Fuels is a carbon-neutral company by running our entire delivery fleet on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and offsetting all remaining emissions.
There is some uncertainty surrounding the term carbon neutral, so we have obtained certification that meets the PAS 2060 standard. This holds us accountable and verifies that we’re following a robust carbon reduction and avoidance strategy.
This certification stipulates a 4-stage process and involves:
- Assessment of GHG emissions based on accurate measurement data
- Reduction of emissions through a target-driven carbon management plan
- Offsetting of excess emissions, often by purchasing carbon credits
- Documentation and verification through qualifying explanatory statements and public disclosure
In 2023 our carbon neutral claims were further verified to ISO 14064 standards.
